But I'll be damned if Alice: Madness Returns isn't one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen.
I really don't understand why it's getting so much hate from reviewers. Maybe they never played a good platformer before (like *cough*SPYRO*cough*). I'm really enjoying it so far. The attention to detail is unmatched, the visuals beautiful, the gameplay smooth (of course, after removing the 30FPS frame cap) and the combat very intuitive and fun. Add to that one of my favorite fictional characters of all time and an amazingly large amount of unique gameplay mechanics, and Alice: Madness Returns can definitely be called one of the best (if not THE best) game released so far this year.

Graphics, as with every part of a video game, always matter. You can have a good game with crappy graphics and a crappy game with good graphics; you can also have both.
Graphics aren't everything, but they do play an important role when it comes to bringing the game to life.
